The Craft Distillers Association of Nova Scotia (CDANS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and promoting the art of craft distillation in our province. Since 2016, we have showcased the skill, creativity, and heritage of Nova Scotia’s distillers, who blend tradition with innovation to produce exceptional spirits. Through collaboration and storytelling, we highlight the craftsmanship, local ingredients, and coastal character that make our distilling industry truly unique.

Our History
A TIMELINE OF THE ADVENTURES IN CRAFT DISTILLING
1990
Laying the Foundation
Glenora Distillery begins distilling single malt whisky in Cape Breton.
2010
First Craft Distillery Opens
Ironworks Distillery opens its doors in Lunenburg. It was the first small-batch micro distillery in the province, with the stated commitment to using Nova Scotia’s bountiful produce to distill an assortment of fine local spirits.
2020
Expanding the Industry
With the opening of more small distilleries, the Craft Distillers’ Association is formed, with the intention of promoting the industry and advocating for new producers. A thriving and diverse landscape of craft spirits producers grows.
2023
Nova Scotian Distilled Certification Launched
CDANS launches the Nova Scotian Distilled Certification medal; a program dedicated to certifying distillers who adhere to acknowledged standards of quality and transparency in the production of their spirits.
